POSITION: Retail & Workshop Assistant

Fantail Cricket is seeking a Retail & Workshop Assistant. In this hands-on role, you’ll work closely with Blake, the owner, across retail, workshop, and day-to-day operations. You’ll be trained in precise bat repair and will ensure top-notch customer service in-store while supporting online orders.
With the addition of our upcoming Atelier clothing line, you’ll need an interest in clothing and an aesthetic sensibility aligned with our brand’s style.
In the future, as you develop in the role, we envision you transitioning into managing the store. You’ll take on greater responsibility, guiding the retail operations, while keeping cricket at the core and embracing our evolving clothing line.
What you'll do day to day:
- Prepare and set up the retail store each morning
- Assist customers in-store, including fitting bats, equipment, and apparel
- Repair, service, and refurbish cricket bats in our workshop
- Prepare, finish, and quality-check new bats before they are offered for sale
- Pick, pack, and dispatch online orders
- Assist with content creation across our social media and marketing channels
- Support the day-to-day operations of the business and take on additional responsibilities as required
About you:
- A genuine interest in cricket, cricket equipment and clothing
- Confident communicator who builds trust easily with customers
- Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Proactive, with a willingness to learn and take initiative
Required skills:
- Previous retail experience
- Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, carpentry, joinery, or a similar hands-on trade.
Details:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week (including Saturday)
- Hourly rate: $25–$32, depending on experience and ability
- Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and hold Permanent Residency
- Based in Mt Eden, Auckland
