Retail & Workshop Assistant — All-Rounder

Fantail Cricket is looking for a practical, enthusiastic all-rounder who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Working closely with Blake, the owner, you’ll support retail, workshop and day-to-day operations, with additional duties assisting in our cookie/coffee bar and kitchen once the Coffeerie opens.

You’ll be trained in precise bat repair, help customers find the right equipment and garments, and support online orders. An interest in clothing and an eye for detail will also be important as we grow our Fantail Cricket Atelier clothing line.

This is a varied, hands-on role in a small business. Whether you’re refurbishing a bat, helping a customer, packing an order, assisting with cookie preparation or washing dishes, you’ll bring the same care and willingness to get stuck in.

As you develop in the role, you'll have the opportunity to progress towards managing the store and taking greater responsibility for day-to-day operations.

What you’ll do day to day:

  • Prepare and set up the retail store each morning

  • Assist customers in-store, including fitting bats, equipment and apparel

  • Repair, service and refurbish cricket bats in our workshop

  • Prepare, finish and quality-check new bats before they are offered for sale

  • Pick, pack and dispatch online orders

  • Assist with content creation across our social media and marketing channels

  • Once the Coffeerie opens, help with taking orders, serving cookies, restocking displays and clearing tables

  • Assist in the kitchen with cookie preparation, baking and general tasks as required

  • Keep retail, workshop, coffee bar and kitchen areas clean and organised, including dishes and general cleaning

  • Support the wider team and step in wherever needed

About you:

  • A genuine interest in cricket, cricket equipment and clothing

  • A practical all-rounder who is comfortable moving between different tasks

  • Confident communicating with customers and building trust

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in craftsmanship

  • Organised and able to manage multiple tasks effectively

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team

  • Proactive, willing to learn and ready to take initiative

  • Happy to roll up your sleeves and help with the tasks that keep a small business running

Required skills:

  • Previous retail experience

  • Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, carpentry, joinery or a similar hands-on trade

Details:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week

  • Hourly rate: $25–$32, depending on experience and ability

  • Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand and hold Permanent Residency

  • Based in Mt Eden, Auckland
